Reyes won't play, but will still attend ASG

NEW YORK -- Despite being a scratch for Tuesday's All-Star Game, Jose Reyes still plans to make the trip to Anaheim.

Before re-aggravating his right oblique injury Saturday afternoon, the shortstop said he flew nine family members from the Dominican Republic to join him for the festivities of the 81st Midsummer Classic.

And he doesn't plan to let them down. Reyes, who missed the 2006 All-Star Game with an injury, expressed his desire to savor the unique experience with his family.

"You know it's important to me, because not too many players have the chance to be there," Reyes said. "Even if I'm not going to play, I'd like to be there and spend some time with the other teammates who are going to be there. It's a beautiful experience to be around the other players from other teams. It's an enjoyable time of your life."
