The 20th anniversary of those memories and others are to be celebrated at Shea Stadium this summer.
The promotions begin May 21, prior to the Mets' Sunday night game against the Yankees, and culminate with a reunion of the team before the Aug. 19 game against the Rockies. The achievements of the Mets' second World Series championship team are to be recognized with special promotional giveaways, in-stadium entertainment and video programming.
All players from the 1986 team, manager Davey Johnson and general manager Frank Cashen are invited to the reunion.
The '86-themed promotional dates also includes the July 23 game against the Astros, the team the Mets defeated in a stunning six-game, best-of-seven playoff series. The other games are against the Orioles on June 16, the Pirates on July 6, and the Phillies on Aug. 4.
"We look forward to welcoming back as many members of the team who can join us for what promises to be another special day in Shea Stadium history," Mets chief operating officer Jeff Wilpon said.
"The 1986 Mets made an indelible mark on the baseball and New York sports scene, capturing the hearts of fans like few other teams in the history of sports," executive vice president Dave Howard said.
