Rookie Bannister strains hamstring

SAN FRANCISCO -- Mets right-hander Brian Bannister was removed from his start against the Giants on Wednesday after he strained his right hamstring running the bases in the sixth inning.

Bannister, who pitched five innings and had two doubles in the game, pulled up lame as he approached third base on his way to scoring on a double by Kaz Matsui.

The club said he would be re-evaluated in Atlanta on Thursday.
