PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Stormy weather forced the Mets to cancel Monday's scheduled game against the Marlins, knocking out power around the region and leaving a soggy field at Digital Domain Park.
Though mostly sunny skies returned by early afternoon, Digital Domain's grounds crew left the field uncovered overnight, not anticipating the early-morning thunderstorms that blanketed the area with rain. Rather than risk injuries on a soggy track, the Mets opted to cancel the game.
The rainout will not affect the club's rotation because the Mets were planning on starting Minor Leaguer Boof Bonser in Monday's game. Lefty Chris Capuano, who is scheduled to pitch out of the bullpen this weekend, will now start Tuesday's game against the Nationals in Viera, Fla. R.A. Dickey will throw in a Minor League game at Port St. Lucie.

The Marlins were planning on starting Minor League right-hander Elih Villanueva on Monday, but the prospect now is slated to pitch against the Mets on Wednesday in place of Anibal Sanchez, who will throw in a Minor League game.
Up next for the Mets: Carlos Beltran will make his long-anticipated debut in right field when the Mets travel to Viera for a 12:05 p.m. ET game Tuesday against the Nationals. Limited by tendinitis in his right knee to one Grapefruit League game at designated hitter, Beltran is now all but assured of making the Opening Day roster. Every other Mets regular will also make the trip and play deep into the game.
Up next for the Marlins: On Tuesday, the Marlins will start Javier Vazquez against the Cardinals' Lance Lynn at Roger Dean Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET, and the Marlins will serve as the home team at the shared facility.
