Spring Training Fan Guide: Mets

Spring Training Fan Guide: Mets

For the first time since 1989 -- the year after the Mets moved their Spring Training to Port St. Lucie -- the Mets head to camp as the reigning National League East champions.

As Mets fans prepare to escape the chill of the Big Apple for a trip to the Treasure Coast of Florida, we offer some logistical advice.

When do the Mets arrive at camp?
Pitchers and catchers report to Port St. Lucie on Feb. 16. Full-squad workouts get under way Feb. 21.

When do games start?
The Mets' Grapefruit League season begins with a matchup that was nearly the 2006 World Series, when they host the American League champion Tigers on Feb. 28.

How do I get tickets?
Tickets for all Mets Spring Training games at Tradition Field can be purchased at the Mets' Spring Training Tickets page.

Individual game tickets also are available by mail, phone or in person at the ticket office at Tradition Field. Additional information may be obtained by calling the Mets' ticket office at (772) 871-2115.

The capacity of Tradition Field is 7,160. Renamed in 2004, Tradition Field has a party terrace in left field and a picnic area on a berm beyond right field. Most of the seats from third base to first are shaded from the sun.

Where is Port St. Lucie, and how do I get there?
Port St. Lucie, the Mets' Spring Training home since '88, is on the east coast of Florida, about 25 minutes south of Vero Beach and 45 minutes north of Palm Beach Gardens.

• From I-95: Whether traveling north or south, take exit 121. Head east on St. Lucie West Boulevard and turn left at the first light onto Northwest Peacock Boulevard. Tradition Field is on the right about one-half mile after the turn.

• From the Florida Turnpike (from Yeehaw Junction): It's best to take the Fort Pierce exit because of construction on Bayshore Boulevard, and then follow signs to I-95 south. Take I-95 to Exit 121 and follow the directions above.

• From the Florida Turnpike (from Miami, Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach): Take exit 116 and follow the signs to I-95 north. Take I-95 to Exit 121 and follow the directions above.

• From Route 1 (from Vero Beach): Turn right onto Prima Vista Boulevard. It becomes St. Lucie West Boulevard when it intersects with Bayshore Boulevard. Go over the Florida Turnpike and then take a right onto Northwest Peacock Boulevard. Tradition Field is on the right about one half mile after the turn.

How can I watch the team work out?
There is no charge to watch the Mets work out at their complex. Before the exhibition schedule begins, the players usually take the field about 9:30 a.m. ET. The length of workouts varies. In the days directly preceding the exhibition game schedule, the Mets probably will play informal intrasquad games.

Where can I get autographs?
There's an area not far from the northwest corner of the parking lot and close to where the pitchers throw early in Spring Training. Players often sign there and by the fences of fields on which they practice. The areas separating the fields in the quadrangle near the Minor League complex is another prime area for autographs while the Major League players are using those fields.

What else is there to do in Port St. Lucie?
The beach on Hutchinson Island isn't too far away, and there are a number of golf courses near the ballpark. There is one multiplex movie theater near the ballpark and a few restaurants along St. Lucie West Boulevard. A greater variety of restaurants -- especially sports bars -- can be found on Route 1. Fast food is everywhere.

Better dining is available in Jensen Beach, Stuart Beach and Vero Beach. The Treasure Coast Mall and a theater are on Route 1 in Jensen Beach.

When do the Mets begin their regular season?
The Mets open the season with an NLCS rematch on April 1, when they take on the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in a nationally televised matchup at 8:05 p.m. ET. The home opener comes on April 9, when the Mets host the Phillies at Shea Stadium at 1:10 p.m. ET.
