Bryn Alderson, 30, spent the last five years as a pro scout in his father's original organization, the Oakland A's. Prior to that, he was an intern under A's general manager Billy Beane.
The Mets also hired former A's pitching coach Ron Romanick to be their Minor League pitching coordinator, taking over from the recently dismissed Rick Tomlin. Romanick's contract was not renewed after one year in Oakland due to the arrival of new manager Bob Melvin. In his lone season, A's pitchers posted a 3.71 ERA, good for third in the American League.
In addition, the Mets promoted Chris Becerra to director of international scouting, Jim D'Aloia to director of professional scouting, Doug Thurman to West Coast scouting supervisor, Tim Fortugno to professional scout and Hector Rincones to Venezuelan supervisor.
The Mets also added one additional professional scout, four amateur area scouts and one special-assignment scout to their roster.
