Schneider day-to-day with injured hand

Schneider day-to-day with injury

DENVER -- Mets catcher Brian Schneider was hospitalized following Saturday night's game with an injury to his left hand. Schneider was unavailable for comment following the game, but the Mets listed him as day-to-day after X-rays taken on the fifth metacarpal of his left hand came back negative.

The problem occurred when Todd Helton fouled a ball off Schneider's hand in the first inning. The backstop remained in the game, however, catching the entire night until giving way to pinch-hitter Marlon Anderson leading off the eighth.

"He got beat up tonight, man," interim manager Jerry Manuel said after the game. "He could have been in there with [Mike] Tyson tonight."

The injury occurred to the same finger that kept Schneider out of action for nearly two weeks in April, when he suffered an infection in his left pinkie finger.
