The New York Mets today announced the team recalled righthanded pitcher Elvin Ramirez from Buffalo (AAA) of the International League and designated righthanded pitcher Miguel Batista for assignment. Ramirez will wear uniform #62 and will be available for today’s game.
Ramirez, 24, joins the Mets for the second time this season. The 6-3, 210-pounder went 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA (seven earned runs/7.0 innings) and 11 hits allowed in five games during his first stint in the majors, June 1-June 22. Over 29 games combined at Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League and Buffalo (AAA) of the International League this season, Ramirez went 3-1 with two saves and a 1.99 ERA (nine earned runs/40.2 innings). He struck out 43.
Batista, 41, went 1-3 with a 4.82 ERA (25 earned runs/46.2 innings) in 30 games, five starts this season.
