Mets recall Juan Lagares


FLUSHING, N.Y., April 23, 2013 - The New York Mets today announced that the club has recalled outfielder Juan Lagares from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and optioned outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis to Las Vegas.  Lagares will wear #12 and is available for tonight's game.

The 6-1, 175-pounder was hitting .346 (27-78) with 13 runs scored, three doubles, two triples, three home runs and nine RBI in 17 games for the 51s.

Lagares, 24, batted .283 (141-499) with 29 doubles, six triples, four home runs and 48 RBI in 130 games for Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League last year.

The righthanded hitter was signed as a non-drafted free agent on May 5, 2006.

Nieuwenhuis was hitting .125 (2-16) with one double and one RBI in 13 games for the Mets.
