The New York Mets today announced the club recalled righthanded pitcher Greg Burke from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and placed righthanded pitcher Jeurys Familia on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to May 9, with right biceps tendinitis. Burke will wear #46 and will be available for today's game.
Burke, 30, returns to the Mets for his second stint with the big league club this season. He made the Opening Day roster and went 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA (six earned runs/7.1 innings) in seven games out of the bullpen. The Mets optioned the righthander to Las Vegas on April 18. In eight games for the 51s, Burke went 1-0 with two saves and a 4.66 ERA (five earned runs/9.2 innings).
Burke's only other major league action came in 2009 with San Diego. In 55 career games, the 6-4, 215-pound native of Camden, NJ is 3-4 with a 4.58 ERA (27 earned runs/53.0 innings).
Familia did not receive a decision in eight games, compiling a 3.48 ERA (four earned runs/10.1 innings) and one save before his injury.
