The Mets also announced that reliever Scott Atchison will not need surgery for the bone spur in his right elbow, after receiving a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews in Florida. Atchison has had ligament damage in his elbow since last season, which the Mets knew when they signed him to a Minor League deal. But the spur caused numbness in his elbow last month, forcing him to cease activity.
There is no timetable for Atchison's return.
