RHP Jeurys Familia to undergo surgery


The New York Mets today announced that that righthanded pitcher Jeurys Familia will undergo right elbow surgery tomorrow at the Hospital for Special Surgery to remove bone spurs and loose bodies. Mets Medical Director Dr. David Altchek will perform the procedure.

Familia, 23, was 0-0 with one save and a 3.48 ERA (four earned runs/10.1 innings) in eight games with the Mets this year. His last appearance came on May 8 when he worked 1.0 inning vs. the White Sox.
