Mets add Atchison and Wheeler, disable Turner


FLUSHING, N.Y., June 18, 2013 - The New York Mets today announced the club returned righthanded pitcher Scott Atchison from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated him from the 15-Day Disabled List, and placed infielder Justin Turner on the 15-Day Disabled List, retroactive to June 17, with a left intercostal strain. The team also recalled righthanded pitcher Zack Wheeler from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League to serve as the 26th man for today's doubleheader.

Atchison, 37, went 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA (nine earned runs/18.0 innings) in 19 games before going to the DL on May 14 with inflammation in his right elbow.

Turner, 28, has a .266 (25-94) average and six RBI in 44 games this season.

Wheeler, 23, is set to make his major league debut in the second game of today's doubleheader and will wear #45.
