With Eric Young Jr. on first base and one out, Daniel Murphy hit a comebacker to the mound, where Masahiro Tanaka fielded it and threw a bit wide of second base. Shortstop Derek Jeter dropped the ball, but Young slid awkwardly, giving Jeter enough time to pick it up before Young actually touched the bag.
After a review, umpires confirmed the original call of an out. That gave the Mets a man on first base and two outs, instead of two men on and one out.
After winning his first two challenges of the season and three of his last four, Collins has now lost two in a row. He is 3-3 on the season, and the Mets are 3-1 on challenges initiated by other managers for a total challenge record of 6-4.
