SAN FRANCISCO -- With Saturday's game on the line, the Mets found no compassion from the gods of instant replay.
Manager Terry Collins unsuccessfully challenged the call that allowed Angel Pagan to reach base safely leading off the ninth inning, and Pagan eventually scored the game's tying run. That set the stage for the Giants' walk-off, 5-4 victory over the Mets.
Facing closer Jenrry Mejia, Pagan struck out on a ball in the dirt that squirted away from catcher Anthony Recker. As Pagan sprinted down the line, Recker's throw pulled first baseman Lucas Duda off the bag, but the Mets challenged in the hope that Duda beat Pagan to the bag.
Replays showed that Pagan reached safely, dropping Collins to 5-6 on challenges this season.
