Mets relieved Lagares OK after diving catch

WASHINGTON -- The Mets' worst fears were averted when Juan Lagares recovered just fine from the dangerous catch he made in Tuesday's win over the Nationals.

With a man on third base in the seventh inning Tuesday, Nationals outfielder Denard Span hit a sinking line drive to center, where Lagares sprinted in and dove to catch it. Though Lagares made the catch, he landed awkwardly, prompting fears of a broken wrist when he remained motionless on the field.

Trainers sprinted out, but Lagares simply had the wind knocked out of him. He remained in the game and was in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Nationals.

"He's fine," manager Terry Collins said. "He just took a jolt to the stomach, so he's all right. Great catch."
