Jose Reyes opened the season on the Mets' disabled list, but if his performance Tuesday in an extended Spring Training game is any indication, it won't be long before he is back in New York's lineup.
While playing nine innings at shortstop in Port St. Lucie, Fla. against the Mets' Class A affiliate, Reyes collected a pair of singles in five at-bats.
Reyes is on the DL with a hyperactive thyroid, a condition that sidelined him for most of March.
He also scored a run in the game against St. Lucie, the Mets' Florida State League affiliate.
Plans originally called for Reyes to rejoin the Mets during the second week of the season.
