Coaching Career

Glenn Patrick Sherlock was named to the Mets coaching staff and catching instructor on November 15, 2016...Handled third base coaching responsibilities in 2017 and 2018... Moved over to first base prior to the 2019 season...Enters his 36th year in professional baseball...Prior to joining the Mets, he spent 19 years on the Arizona Diamondbacks coaching staff...He was the only coach to be on the staff since the club's inception in 1998...Served as the D-backs catching coach from 1998-2016...He spent three years as the D-Backs bench coach (2003, 2015-2016) and was their bullpen coach from 1998-2002 and 2005-2013...Was Arizona's third base coach in 2004 and 2014... Served as Arizona's minor league catching coordinator from 1996- 1997...Served as a scout for Arizona during the 1997 Expansion Draft ...Was Mariano Rivera's first manager in professional baseball in 1990 with the Gulf Coast Yankees...Managed three seasons in the Yankees organization, going 121-128 from 1990-1991, and 1993 with the rookie level Gulf Coast Yankees and Fort Lauderdale (A) affiliate in the Florida State League...Was a catching instructor in 1992...Managed the Canberra Bushrangers of the Australian Baseball League in 1993...Among catchers he has coached are: Jorge Posada, Mike Stanley, Bob Melvin, Brad Ausmus, Jim Leyritz, Kelly Stinnett, Miguel Montero, Henry Blanco and Tuffy Gosewisch.

Playing Career

A former catcher, he played 297 minor league games in the Astros (1983-1986) and Yankees (1987-1989) organizations...Reached Triple-A with the Yankees...Was drafted in the 21st-round of the 1983 Free Agent Draft by the Houston Astros


Earned a B.A. in Environmental Studies at Rollins College (FL)... Honored with the Rollins College Hall of Fame Achievement Award and earned Sunshine State All-Star status...Played three years for Yarmouth-Dennis in the Cape Cod Summer League...Graduated in 1979 from St. John's Prep in Danvers, MA...Was all-state in baseball...Also played football...Operates a catching camp in Arizona during the offseason...Completed the 2013 Ironman Arizona...Glenn and his wife, Lisa, have a son, Tim, and a daughter, Cara...Tim was the DBacks' 40th-round pick in the 2009 First-Year Player Draft from Duke University...He was originally selected by the Phillies in the 32nd round of the 2005 draft, but chose to attend Duke...Tim played from 2009-2010.
