Conforto homers for Mets in return from DL

All along, Michael Conforto said a May 1 return date from shoulder surgery seemed "a little late" to him. If it took until May 1 for Conforto to complete the requisite physical therapy, rehab and baseball activities, so be it, but a part of him never strayed from the desire to return sooner.

Conforto takes swings; Vargas stretches out

As workers cleared the snow off the grass at Citi Field on Monday, outfielder Michael Conforto ducked inside to take his hacks in a simulated game. Left-hander Jason Vargas, who is also rehabbing from injury, threw from behind an L screen as Conforto swung in an indoor batting cage.

Michael Thomas Conforto graduated from Redmond (WA) High School where he was named All-State and All-League after his senior campaign...Batted .400 as a senior with five doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 19 RBI in 29 games…Also lettered two years in football as a quarterback and a free safety…Attended Oregon State University...Was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year during his first season on campus...Hit a team-leading .349 and led the Pac-12 with 76 RBI as a freshman...
